Coventry Parish Ruins

Coventry Parish Ruins are the remains of a brick church where three walls still stand in farmland near the Pocomoke River. The structure was built with solid masonry and originally had considerable size and architectural detail.

This church was constructed between 1785 and 1788 using materials salvaged from an earlier church that had been dismantled. The congregation continued a religious tradition established in the region during colonial times.

This place served as the spiritual center for local families who gathered here for worship and community events over many decades. The ruins today remind visitors of how central such churches were to everyday life in rural Maryland.

The site sits on private farmland and can be viewed from the perimeter, allowing visitors to see the ruins from a distance. It is best to observe the location from accessible public areas and respect property boundaries.

These ruins once belonged to the largest Episcopal church on Maryland's Eastern Shore and featured ten arches in its design. This architectural character set it apart from other churches of that era across the region.
