Doctor John Witherspoon, Bronze sculpture at Connecticut Avenue and N Street NW, Washington DC, United States

The bronze statue depicts John Witherspoon in a standing position, holding a Bible, mounted on a granite pedestal with detailed inscriptions.

The memorial was dedicated in 1909 with future President Woodrow Wilson and Vice President James Sherman attending the unveiling ceremony.

The sculpture commemorates John Witherspoon, who signed the Declaration of Independence while serving as the only minister in the Second Continental Congress.

The monument rises to a total height of 17 feet, combining an 8-foot bronze figure with a 9-foot granite base at this Washington intersection.

The Witherspoon Memorial Association, established in 1902, raised funds and coordinated efforts to create this permanent tribute to the Presbyterian leader.
