Greim, Mountain summit in Styria, Austria
Greim rises to 2,474 meters (8,133 feet) in the Wölzer Tauern range and displays diverse terrain from grassy slopes to rocky summit sections. The landscape transitions gradually, creating different zones as you gain elevation.
This peak has long shaped the geography of the Niedere Tauern, standing as the second highest summit in its range. Its prominence made it a natural waypoint for early mountaineers exploring the area.
The hut at its base represents a long-standing tradition of mountain hospitality in this region. Visitors gather there to share meals and stories, making it a meeting point for those exploring the range.
From Sankt Peter am Kammersberg, marked trails lead to the summit with about two hours of climbing time from Greimhütte. The route is well-marked, but you should be comfortable on steep terrain and have reasonable fitness.
The southern ravine called Greimrinne holds snow well into spring, allowing ski touring despite its southward-facing slope. This feature draws winter enthusiasts to the area even when snow melts elsewhere.
