Burgruine Lobenstein, Oberneukirchen, Medieval castle ruin in Oberneukirchen, Austria.
The stone ruins of Lobenstein Castle stand on a 700-meter hilltop, featuring a seven-sided residential tower and remnants of ancient fortification walls.
First documented in 1242, the castle belonged to the Lords of Lobenstein until economic decline forced them to transfer it to the Starhemberg family in 1369.
The castle ruin represents medieval Austrian defensive architecture and serves as a testament to the territorial development of Upper Austria's Mühlviertel region.
Located at Lobenstein 100, the site maintains good structural condition and allows visitors to explore multiple sections of the preserved medieval fortification.
In the early 1900s, the castle tower served as shelter for Michael Kitzmüller until 1920, when he was discovered murdered within its walls.
