Burgruine Windegg

Burgruine Windegg is a castle ruin perched on a hilltop near Schwertberg with stone structures from the 12th century. The remains include multiple buildings and walls, some still standing and others partially collapsed.

The fortress was first documented in 1208 and remained in use through the late 17th century. After that period, it gradually fell into ruin and became what we see today.

The remains reveal how medieval structures were built to last and defend the surrounding lands. Walking through the grounds shows how fortress design shaped daily life in this region centuries ago.

The site sits on a hillside and requires some effort to walk uphill, but the vantage point rewards visitors with wide views. Visit on dry days when the ground is stable, as wet conditions make the terrain slippery.
