First documented in 1208, the castle maintained its full structure until the late 17th century when it gradually transformed into its current ruined state.
The castle represents medieval Austrian architecture and serves as a testament to the defensive structures built during the Romanesque period.
Visitors can explore the ruins during guided tours from May through October on Sundays between 2 PM and 6 PM.
The castle spans 1,042 square meters, making it one of the largest medieval fortifications in the lower Mühlviertel region.
