Schloss Schwertberg, Medieval château in Schwertberg, Austria.
Schloss Schwertberg is a stone château with Renaissance architecture located in Schwertberg near the Aist River. The building features multiple wings arranged around a central courtyard at the town's edge.
The castle was first documented in 1327 as property of Regensburg. In 1608 it underwent major expansion under Georg Erasmus von Tschernembl, who commissioned architect Antonio Canevale.
The Renaissance garden surrounding the castle is one of the few preserved historical gardens from this era in Austria. Visitors can experience the original layout and plantings that frame the building today.
The castle is located between Vienna and Salzburg and offers accommodations in rooms furnished with English country style. Guests have access to a swimming pool and tennis court on the grounds.
Archduchess Alice of Tuscany, a relative of the Austrian imperial family, spent her final years at the castle and died there in 1935. Her residence connects the castle's history to major European royal families.
