Schloss Halbturn, Baroque castle in Halbturn, Austria.
Schloss Halbturn is a baroque castle in Halbturn, Austria, with a symmetrical facade, ornate stone decorations, large windows, and a central building flanked by two reconstructed wings. Today it functions as an exhibition space and concert venue with an adjacent vineyard on the grounds.
The castle was designed by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt as a hunting lodge for Emperor Charles VI between 1701 and 1711. Later, Franz Anton Hillebrandt made further changes and improvements to the structure.
Inside the castle, visitors can see a remarkable ceiling fresco titled 'Allegory of Time and Light' created in 1765 by Franz Anton Maulbertsch. This artwork shapes the character of the rooms and shows the artistic richness that once defined the building.
The castle offers guided tours of its rooms and tastings of wines from the adjacent vineyard. It's worth checking ahead to see which activities are available on the day you plan to visit, as offerings vary by season.
The surrounding English-style garden was redesigned in 1900 and features a preserved baroque parterre from 1737 in front of the south facade. This geometric garden layout still displays the formal elegance of the earlier era.
