Pfarrkirche hl. Magdalena, Mönchhof

The parish church dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene in Mönchhof is a baroque structure perched on elevated ground, featuring a distinctive onion dome and a broad sanctuary with a straight-walled apse. The building displays the craftsmanship of its era through carefully detailed work.

The structure replaced a medieval church from 1240 that was destroyed during the Turkish War in 1683. This baroque replacement was built between 1729 and 1734 under master builder Karl Moispointner.

The main altar created in 1739 by Elias Hügel features a painting of the Penitent Magdalena by Martino Altomonte alongside sculptures by Giovanni Giuliani. These artworks define the interior of the sanctuary today.

The church sits on elevated ground easily reached on foot from Mönchhof village, offering views of the surrounding area. Visitors should know that regular services are held and guided tours are available by arrangement.

The northwest facade displays the coat of arms of Heiligenkreuz Abbey in stucco work, marking the historical connection with the monastery. A keystone above a window bears the date 1734, documenting when construction was completed.
