Obernberger See

The Obernberger See features two distinct sections separated by ancient rock formations, stretching 740 meters in length at 1,590 meters elevation.

A rock avalanche in prehistoric times divided the lake into two parts, creating a natural platform where the Maria am See chapel stands today.

The Maria am See chapel, accessible by a wooden bridge, represents a traditional Alpine religious structure within the Tyrolean mountain landscape.

Visitors can reach the lake through a 6-kilometer hiking trail from the Waldesruh parking area, with an estimated round trip duration of two hours.

The lake's water level fluctuates up to 7 meters seasonally, causing the two separate basins to merge during spring snowmelt periods.
