Franz-Keim-Gasse Brunn am Gebirge, Art Nouveau row houses in Brunn am Gebirge, Austria
The Franz-Keim-Gasse is a row of ten duplex houses with characteristic vertical window arrangements on each facade. Each house displays individual designs with botanical and geometric ornaments that were typical of the Art Nouveau period.
The ensemble was built between 1902 and 1912 according to designs by Sepp Hubatsch on former vineyard grounds near his own residence. The construction period coincided with a time of significant architectural innovations in the Vienna region.
A commemorative plaque at house number 12 marks the residence of writer Franz Keim, after whom the street received its name. The houses reflect the period's preference for botanical ornaments, which still decorate the facades today.
The ensemble sits at the edge of Brunn am Gebirge, about 15 kilometers south of Vienna and is easily reached by public transportation. The street itself is publicly accessible and can be walked through in a short time.
Although the street slopes downward, all houses appear the same width and height - this was achieved through varying basement depths beneath the structures. This practical solution shows careful planning and adaptation to the existing topography.
