Dunklhof

Dunklhof is a town house from the 15th century with a remarkable Renaissance arcade courtyard. The columns and corner pillars display intricate carved details and ornaments from that era.

The house was built in the 15th century and originally served as a seat for lower jurisdiction. Its use reflects the administrative importance the building held in Steyr's early history.

The house carries the name of writer Dora Dunkl, who organized regular musical evenings here starting in 1959. These gatherings drew artists and music lovers into the courtyard, turning the place into an active hub for cultural life in the city.

The building is located at Kirchengasse 16 and can be viewed from outside to see the facade and entrance area. For a visit to the inner courtyard, it is advisable to contact the administration in advance by phone.

Until 2001, the Holy Spirit Pharmacy occupied this building before it was converted into an art space for various artists. This transformation shows how the house adapted to new functions while keeping its historical importance.
