Glaubenskirche, Protected religious building in Simmering, Austria.
Glaubenskirche is a church building in Simmering featuring concrete walls, brick elements, glass panels, and spruce wood components. Its nearly cubic main worship space is designed to flood the interior with natural light through strategically placed windows and glass block elements.
Architect Roland Rainer designed the building following his 1952 competition victory and replaced a temporary wooden structure. The new church opened in September 1963.
The church bells named Faith, Love, and Hope ring from an eight-meter tower, embodying core values of Protestant faith in Vienna. They mark religious moments throughout the day for the surrounding neighborhood.
The church is located at Braunhubergasse 20 and surrounded by various rooms arranged around a central courtyard. A covered walkway connects the courtyard to the entrance, providing shelter when entering.
Of the five churches Roland Rainer designed throughout his career, this is the only one actually built in Vienna. A glass block cross embedded in the western wall above the altar draws light into the interior as a symbolic gesture.
