Turnersee, lake in Carinthia
Turnersee is a small lake in Sankt Kanzian am Klopeiner See, in the Carinthia region of Austria. Its shores slope gently into shallow water, bordered by open meadows and scattered trees that provide shade along the edges.
The lake has been used as a swimming spot by local communities for generations, long before organized tourism reached the area. Basic facilities were added along its shores over time to make it more accessible for day visitors.
The lake draws local families throughout summer, with children playing in the shallows while adults sit on the grass nearby. It has the feel of a neighborhood spot rather than a tourist destination.
The lake sits close to the center of Sankt Kanzian and can be reached on foot or by car, with parking near the shore. Visiting on a weekday tends to mean more space along the water's edge.
The Turnersee regularly reaches water temperatures of around 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit) in summer, which is unusually warm for a lake at this altitude. Swimmers often find the water comfortable even in the early morning hours.
