Alt-Kainach Castle

Alt-Kainach Castle is a rectangular structure rising three stories with a prominent gabled roof, centered by a five-story defensive tower that stands taller than the main building. Inside, the rooms have been arranged as a museum where visitors walk through spaces that reflect how people lived and worked here.

The site originated as a simple farmstead in the 12th century before receiving fortifications including walls and a surrounding moat during the 14th century. This transformation turned a modest rural property into a defended stronghold.

The chapel dedicated to Saint Florian sits in the southeastern wing and reflects the religious importance the families living here placed on their faith. Today visitors can see how this space was integrated into daily life within the castle.
