Hochkogel, Mountain summit in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria
Hochkogel rises to 2249 meters and forms a distinctive peak in the Kitzbüheler Alpen range. The north side drops steeply toward Saalbach valley, while the south side slopes down in gentle ridges.
The mountain was integrated long ago into the Pinzgauer Spaziergang, an established route connecting multiple peaks in the Kitzbüheler Alpen. This connection made it a well-known point in the hiking region.
Mountain huts here preserve old traditions by offering shelter and meals to hikers during the summer season. These simple buildings shape the landscape and serve as gathering points for people spending time in the mountains.
Hikers can reach the summit from multiple starting points, with routes taking three to five hours depending on the chosen trailhead. Good footwear and plenty of water matter for the varying inclines along the way.
A permanent shelter at Klammscharte offers refuge to hikers traversing between the three summits of this mountain group year-round. This building helps make the crossing safer when weather turns difficult.
