Hochälpele, Mountain summit in Bregenzerwald, Austria.
Hochälpelekopf is a mountain summit in the Bregenzerwald region with a height of about 1,460 meters (4,790 feet). From this elevation, visitors enjoy views across forested valleys and toward Lake Constance.
Mountain paths around the summit developed over centuries as local communities created connections between valleys in the Bregenzerwald region. These historic routes linked settlements and allowed trade to move through Alpine passes.
The Hochälpele mountain inn serves regional Alpine dishes and preserves the building's original design. The local kitchen shows how mountain communities have traditionally used the land's natural resources to cook and eat.
The summit is reachable from the Haldenlift car park in Schwarzenberg via a marked trail that covers about 650 meters of elevation gain. The climb takes between 2 and 3 hours depending on fitness and pace.
In winter, the summit offers designated routes for ski touring beginners, making Alpine winter sports accessible to those new to the activity. These gentler routes allow visitors to explore the mountain landscape during snowy months.
