Rolls-Royce Museum, Automobile museum in Dornbirn, Austria.
The Rolls-Royce Museum in Altenrhein, in the Austrian region of Vorarlberg, is an automobile museum housing around 70 vehicles and over 1000 related objects. The collection covers the full production timeline of the brand, from its earliest models to the present day.
The collection was started in 1982 by Franz Vonier and was first housed in a former textile factory in the region. After opening to the public in 1999, the museum later moved to its current home in Altenrhein.
Many of the cars on display once belonged to kings, heads of state, or film stars, showing how closely this brand was tied to power and public status. Walking through the gallery, visitors can read the story of each era through details like interior trim, paint choices, and personal customizations.
The museum is in Altenrhein and can be reached by car, train, or bus from the surrounding area. Allow plenty of time for the visit, as the collection fills several rooms and rewards a slow pace.
One of the most talked-about pieces in the collection is a 1927 Phantom I that appeared in the film Lawrence of Arabia, driven on screen by Peter O'Toole. This car connects automobile history directly to one of the most celebrated films of the 20th century.
