Palais Erzherzog Carl, Baroque palace in Innere Stadt, Vienna, Austria.
Palais Erzherzog Carl is a baroque building with classical elements located at the corner of Albertinaplatz and Augustinerstraße in central Vienna. The interior features a grand white stone staircase and various rooms now used for exhibitions and other purposes.
Architect Franz Anton Pilgram completed the building in 1603 after three separate houses were combined and expanded. Before this, an imperial foundry occupied the site from 1567 until the land was redeveloped for the new project.
The palace now houses the House of Music, where visitors can explore the history of Vienna's musical culture. The space draws music lovers and tourists interested in Austrian opera and orchestra traditions.
Visitors can explore the House of Music and various musical history exhibitions housed within the palace rooms. The central location at Albertinaplatz makes it easy to orient yourself and access other sights in the old city.
The building underwent major renovation between 1958 and 1960, transforming from a residence into a cultural center. This transformation made it possible to open the historic rooms for public musical exhibitions and the philharmonic museum.
