Linzer Landhaus

Linzer Landhaus, Renaissance governmental building in Hauptplatz, Linz, Austria

The Linzer Landhaus is a governmental building on Hauptplatz featuring three inner courtyards connected by passages. The central courtyard displays remarkable Renaissance arcades alongside a decorated fountain depicting planetary figures.

Construction took place between 1568 and 1658 on the site of a former Minorite monastery. The tower dates from 1568 and received a copper dome in 1801.

The building now serves as the seat of the Upper Austrian Parliament. Inside, the Renaissance fountain decorated with planetary motifs reflects the intellectual heritage of the city during earlier centuries.

Visitors can explore the building through guided tours that include access to the tower. Tours are available at regular intervals throughout the year via Linz Tourism.

The north portal was built in 1565 using red and painted marble, making it one of Austria's most important Renaissance gateways. This carefully crafted entrance demonstrates the skilled craftsmanship of the Renaissance period.
