Ruine Hanselburg, Castle ruin in Fallbach, Austria.
Ruine Hanselburg is a castle ruin located in a forested area near Fallbach in Lower Austria, featuring a round tower with two square annexes. The structure sits at an elevation of 320 meters (1,050 feet) above sea level.
Prince Johann I von Liechtenstein constructed this artificial castle ruin in 1800 on the remains of an older fortified settlement as a hunting pavilion. This project reflected how estates of the period were repurposed for new leisure activities.
The structure displays Gothic-style windows in the upper section and round-arched openings at ground level, with walls that were once covered in elaborate decorative paintings. These details show that the building was designed with care for beauty and craftsmanship.
You can reach the ruin via the Hanslburger Rundwanderweg hiking trail, which starts at Gasthaus Skrabal in Wultendorf. The marked path features eight checkpoint stations that help guide walkers through the area.
A gravestone from 1574 belonging to Adam Gall is the only preserved artifact from the original settlement and is now displayed at the entrance of Loosdorf Castle. This rare remnant provides a connection to the people who lived at this location centuries before the hunting pavilion was built.
