Hagenberg Castle

Hagenberg Castle stands on elevated ground with stone walls, featuring both restored medieval sections and modern architectural additions completed in the late 20th century.

The castle's foundations date back to the 12th century, with subsequent expansions marking different architectural periods through medieval and renaissance developments.

The castle now houses the RISC Research Institute, transforming from a medieval fortress into a center for computer science studies and academic research.

Visitors can explore the castle grounds during office hours from Monday through Thursday 8 AM to 4 PM and Friday 8 AM to 12 PM.

The restoration project earned the Architecture Award of Upper Austria in 1988 for successfully integrating contemporary design elements with the historical structure.
