Reiteregg Castle, Protected castle in Hitzendorf, Austria.
Reiteregg Castle is situated on a hilltop between Lieboch Valley and Sodding Valley, with a fortified tower and chapel integrated into the structure. The interior retains original furnishings from the interwar period.
The castle was built in the 17th century on the grounds of a former farmstead. Extensive renovations took place in 1871 under Baron Leopold von Haan.
The chapel inside the castle is dedicated to Saint Mary and holds an oratory and sacristy for worship. A plague column stands in front of the building as a reminder of earlier times.
The castle sits on elevated ground and requires a walk uphill to reach the entrance. The location offers clear views across both valleys and is straightforward to find.
Local legend claims an underground passage once connected this castle to the nearby Schütting Castle. However, no evidence has ever been found to support this story.
