Schloss Schielleiten, Baroque castle in Stubenberg, Austria
Schloss Schielleiten is a baroque palace with a yellow facade set on a large estate with mature trees and modern facilities. The building contains seminar rooms, concert facilities, and extensive sports areas spread across the grounds.
The palace was built between 1720 and 1730 and replaced an older fortress that previously occupied the valley slopes. Its construction marked a shift from military to civilian use by the ruling family.
The chapel and concert hall remain active cultural spaces where musical performances take place throughout the year. Visitors experience how the castle's original purpose as a noble residence has evolved into a venue for contemporary events.
The grounds are extensive and offer accommodation plus diverse activities in both indoor and outdoor areas. Visitors should allow plenty of time for exploration and be aware that different areas are more or less accessible depending on weather conditions.
Since 1936 it has served as Austria's largest federal sports center and has hosted major international hot air balloon championships multiple times. The combination of baroque splendor with modern sports operations makes the location both unusual and historically significant.
