Tiergarten Walding, Zoo and riding center in Walding, Austria
Tiergarten Walding houses a diverse animal population including gibbons, lions, zebras, servals, camels, alpacas, guanacos, ostriches, and prairie dogs spread across its grounds. The facility also features a riding and petting center with various domesticated species.
The facility began in 1967 as a farm and inn near Linz where the Mair family started their animal collection. In 1977 the family relocated to Walding, and the zoo officially opened in 1979.
The facility cares for rare domestic breeds such as Walliser goats, Tauernschecken sheep, Watussi cattle, black-nosed sheep, and white Baroque donkeys. These animals represent historical livestock varieties that have become less common.
The grounds are easily accessible with a mix of open enclosures and fenced areas where visitors can observe animals from various distances. The pathways through the facility are relatively flat and navigable for most mobility levels.
The zoo operates Bimbi-Land, a dedicated children's area featuring interactive activities and close animal contact. Visitors can also participate in daily pony rides and sponsor animals they adopt.
