Kath. Pfarrkirche hl. Jakobus der Ältere, Faistenau

The Catholic St. James the Elder Church in Faistenau is a parish church with a characteristic Gothic tower and eastern additions from 1720 that created additional seating space. The interior features painted walls and an altar structure dating to the early 1700s.

The church was founded in 1324 when the Archbishop of Salzburg authorized local nobility to establish a subsidiary place of worship in the region. The building underwent changes and additions over the following centuries to meet the needs of the growing population.

The painted ceiling displays religious scenes that fill the interior with color and detail, while the high altar from 1716 depicts the rosary theme important to the local community.

The church can be entered through the main door on the western side, which is typically open to visitors during daytime hours. Regular services and religious celebrations happen throughout the year, so checking ahead about events is helpful for planning your visit.

The organ built in 1825 by Karl Mauracher was the first such instrument after 500 years without one in the building. This work by a renowned craftsman still shapes the sound of the church today.
