Castle of Schoten, Medieval castle in Schoten, Belgium
The Castle of Schoten is a brick and sandstone fortress built on grounds surrounded by water moats and includes several auxiliary structures. The estate now functions as a public park featuring the main residence, a falcon tower, and farm buildings.
The current structure was begun in 1548 by the Van Brecht family from Breda and completed in 1611. It remained privately held until the municipality acquired it in 1951.
The castle belonged to the Ullens de Schooten family for generations before becoming public property. Today locals walk its grounds and enjoy the open space, making it an important gathering place for the community.
The grounds are accessible as a public park on Kasteeldreef for walking and exploring at your own pace. A nearby restaurant provides food options if you need refreshment during your visit.
The design features neo-Flemish Renaissance elements with brick and sandstone details that reflect regional building traditions of the period. This architectural style connects it to other fortress estates scattered across the Brabant region.
