Fort de Fléron, Military fortification in Fléron, Belgium
The fort follows a triangular layout with a 300-meter base and 235-meter sides, surrounded by a 6-meter deep and 8-meter wide ditch.
General Henri Alexis Brialmont designed this concrete fortification between 1881 and 1891 as part of the defensive ring protecting the city of Liège.
The remaining headwall displays text commemorating the soldiers who defended the fort during both World War I and World War II conflicts.
The location of the former military structure now contains residential buildings and a public park, with limited access to original elements.
Unlike other European fortifications of its time, Fort de Fléron was constructed entirely of unreinforced concrete instead of traditional masonry materials.
