Fort de Fléron is a military fortification made of concrete with a triangular layout and various side lengths. The entire structure was once surrounded by a deep ditch that provided additional defensive protection.
This facility was built between 1881 and 1891 under the direction of General Henri Alexis Brialmont. It was created as part of a defensive ring around the city of Liège to protect the region from attack.
The inscriptions on the remaining walls commemorate soldiers who defended this location during both world wars. Visitors can still read these memorial texts and gain a sense of the human stories tied to this place.
The site now contains residential buildings and a public park where visitors can walk around the area. Some original elements of the fortification remain visible, though access to certain parts is limited.
Unlike other European fortifications of its time, this structure was built entirely from unreinforced concrete. This unusual construction choice made it a rarity in 19th century fortification design.
