Bosteels brewery, brewing structure located in Belgium
Bosteels brewery is a family-run brewing facility in Buggenhout, a small town in the East Flanders province of Belgium. The site is made up of old brick buildings housing fermentation tanks and brewing equipment, alongside a more modern bottling section.
The brewery was founded in 1791 and has remained in the same family across seven generations. Over the 20th century, it gradually extended its distribution to larger Belgian cities and grew its production capacity.
The brewery is best known for three beers: Tripel Karmeliet, DeuS, and Kwak, each served in its own specially shaped glass. The Kwak glass, held in a wooden stand, is a recognizable symbol of the brewery and can be found in the gift shop.
Tours are offered in Dutch, French, or English and are best booked in advance, as group sizes are limited. Each visit ends with a tasting and a stop at the gift shop.
The Kwak beer brand was revived in the 1980s by Ivo Bosteels after it had largely been forgotten. The rounded glass with its wooden holder was originally designed so that coachmen could keep it steady while on the road.
