UGC-de Brouckère, Movie theater in Place de Brouckère, Brussels, Belgium
UGC-de Brouckère is a multiplex movie theater in central Brussels, located on Place de Brouckère and spread across nine screening rooms. The building is a protected heritage site designed in the Art Deco style with African art influences.
The building opened in 1933 as the Eldorado Cinema, replacing an older venue called Cinéma des Princes on the same site. Over the following decades it was gradually converted into a multiplex while keeping parts of its original design intact.
The cinema sits on Place de Brouckère, one of the busiest squares in central Brussels, where locals and visitors mix throughout the day. Films are shown in both French and Dutch, mirroring the city's everyday bilingual life.
The cinema is fully wheelchair accessible and sits directly on Place de Brouckère, which is easy to reach by public transport. Concession stands are available throughout the building, and the screens are spread across several floors, so it helps to arrive a few minutes early.
The Grande Salle Eldorado still has its two original balconies from the 1930s, which survived the conversion to a multiplex. This makes it one of the few cinema rooms in Belgium that still has this kind of historic interior layout.
