Parc animalier de La Reid

Parc animalier de La Reid is a zoo spread across about 44 hectares of meadows and forests, home to roughly 300 European animals from about 30 species. The animals live in semi-natural settings that allow them to display and develop their typical behaviors.

The facility opened in 1973 as a breeding center for European wildlife and originally served to help maintain animal populations. Theux municipality took it over in 1998, and it was later privatized, leading to its current role as an education-focused zoo.

The park displays wolves and bears in settings that let you watch how these animals live together and interact with one another. The enclosures are built to allow natural behavior, giving you a real sense of how these species function in groups.

The park is accessible daily to visitors, and fair-weather days are especially worthwhile since animals are more active and easier to spot. Comfortable shoes are important because the grounds are expansive with various paths to explore.

Guests can stay overnight in lodges positioned directly beside animal enclosures, offering direct views of wolves, bears, and other European wildlife. This overnight experience creates an immediacy with the animals that typical day visits cannot provide.
