Church of San Juan de Rabanera

Church of San Juan de Rabanera, Romanesque church in Soria, Spain.

The Church of San Juan de Rabanera is a Romanesque church in Soria featuring a Latin cross layout with a single nave, transept, main chapel, and semicircular apse. The structure is lit by two windows in the apse and displays typical Romanesque features of its period.

The church took its name from settlers of Rabanera del Campo who established themselves in Soria between 1109 and 1119 during the repopulation period. This founding reflected the expansion and resettlement happening across the region at that time.

The main entrance displays four archivolts carved with scenes from the life of Jesus Christ and miracles of Saint Nicholas shown as a bishop. These carvings tell stories that visitors encounter immediately upon arriving at the church.

The church is accessible to visitors year-round, and you should allow time to examine both the exterior facade and interior to appreciate all the architectural details. For specific visiting hours or additional information, contact the local tourist office or information centers in Soria.

The main portal of the church originally came from the demolished Church of San Nicolas and was relocated here in 1908. This relocation shows how old architectural elements were preserved by integrating them into new structures.
