Gujuli, Natural waterfall in Urkabustaiz, Spain
Gujuli is a waterfall where the Oiardo stream drops vertically around 100 meters down a limestone wall, creating a thin white line of water against the rock face. The single straight fall makes it an easy-to-recognize landmark in the Gorbea Natural Park landscape.
The waterfall formed gradually over thousands of years as the Oiardo stream eroded the limestone cliffs into their current shape. This slow natural process created the landscape we see today in the Gorbea Natural Park.
The waterfall carries both Spanish and Basque names, reflecting the dual language heritage of the Alava region.
The walk to the viewing platform takes about 500 meters starting from the parking area near Goiuri-Ondona and is fairly straightforward. Wear shoes with good grip, as the path can become slippery especially after rain.
During winter months the water flow swells considerably, turning what is normally a thin stream into a forceful display. This seasonal shift means the coldest time of year offers one of the most powerful views of the waterfall.
