Tous Reservoir

Tous Reservoir is a water storage system built across the Júcar River valley to supply water for farming and power generation. The dam holds back water in a wide basin that spreads through the surrounding landscape.

The first dam was built in the 1970s, but the original structure failed during heavy rainfall in 1982 and caused severe flooding in the area. The site was rebuilt with a stronger spillway system to prevent future disasters.

The reservoir brings together fishing enthusiasts from surrounding areas who gather to compete and share their passion for the sport. The place reflects the strong connection between local communities and the water resources they depend on.

Fishing at the reservoir requires special permits, and there are designated picnic areas and spots for watching local wildlife. The site is easiest to visit during daylight hours, and sturdy shoes are recommended since paths around the water can be uneven.

The rebuilt structure features an open spillway system without mechanical components that automatically handles extreme flood situations. This design allows the dam to safely manage dangerous water volumes without requiring human intervention.
