Majadahonda, Coastal municipality in Costa Blanca, Spain
Majadahonda is a municipality in the Community of Madrid, located in central Spain about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of the capital. The town combines residential neighborhoods with wide avenues, parks, and a historic center around the Plaza Mayor.
The settlement emerged in medieval times as a farming village and remained a small town until the 20th century. Since the 1960s it has grown rapidly, evolving into a suburb of Madrid with new residential areas and infrastructure.
The Benidorm International Song Festival contributes to the Spanish music industry by presenting new talent and established performers on outdoor stages.
Public bus lines connect the town regularly with Madrid, and commuter trains stop at nearby stations. Most shops, restaurants, and services are found in the center and along the main streets of residential areas.
The name of the town likely comes from the Arabic term for cistern or well, structures built in the area. At some street corners in the old center you can still see old stone wells that once supplied water to residents.
