Tibi Reservoir, reservoir in Spain
Tibi Reservoir is a 59-foot (18 meter) high dam wall in Valencia's interior, built to hold back water from a narrow gorge. The resulting lake has green-blue waters surrounded by rocky cliffs that form the valley walls.
This dam was built in the 1500s as one of Spain's earliest works of its kind, designed to store water for irrigation across drier regions. The structure represented a significant engineering achievement for the time period.
The dam is easiest to reach on foot or by car, with a small parking area nearby for visitors. Weekday visits tend to be quieter, giving you space to walk around and view the lake and cliffs without crowds.
The dam was built without cement, using only stacked stone and lime mortar, yet it remains remarkably stable today. This method shows how builders solved engineering problems with simple materials long before modern construction techniques.
