Aldea del Fresno, municipality of Spain
Aldea del Fresno is a small municipality in the Community of Madrid, set in the valley of the Alberche River near the town of Navalcarnero. The village is made up of stone houses with terracotta roofs, gathered around a central square, with the Perales River running close by.
The settlement was established before the 12th century, used as a stop along the transhumance routes between Segovia and Extremadura. After the Christian conquest of Toledo in 1085, farmers and craftspeople gradually settled around a small religious house, and the village slowly took shape.
The name Aldea del Fresno comes from an ash tree around which the first houses were built. The village structure with traditional stone homes and narrow winding streets reflects a rural way of life shaped by shepherds and farmers for centuries.
The village is reachable from Madrid by bus, via the N-V road and the M-507. The Plaza San Pedro makes a good starting point for a walk through the village, from where the church, the river, and an old water wheel are all within easy walking distance.
The Palacio El Rincón, a large mansion on the edge of the village built in the late 1800s, serves as the outdoor filming location for the Spanish television series La Promesa, broadcast since 2023. Only the garden scenes are shot on site, while all interior scenes are recreated in studios elsewhere.
