Peñaranda de Bracamonte

Peñaranda de Bracamonte is a municipality in the Province of Salamanca located at about 900 meters elevation, roughly 40 kilometers from the city of Salamanca. The area covers a modest expanse with buildings and squares arranged around a historic core.

The settlement received royal designation as a market center in the 14th century and became an important trading place in the region. A terrible accident at a powder mill in July 1939 marked the community deeply and left lasting scars on this place.

The town center has three connected squares that originated from a 14th-century royal privilege when this place became a regional market hub. Local people still use these spaces as natural gathering spots today, showing how this old structure shapes everyday life.

The tourist office is located at the main square and helps visitors with information about local sites and activities. It is helpful to check opening times before your visit, as they are limited and not available every day.

Local cooking features a special stew called lúa that combines potatoes, rice, and dried fish using a preparation method found only here. This dish shows the area's rural roots and connection to traditional ingredients passed down through generations.
