Manilva

Manilva is a coastal municipality in Málaga Province that spreads across a large area and contains several settlements with different character. The region combines rural villages inland with three port towns along the coast.

People inhabited this area since prehistoric times, as shown by findings in the Sierra Utrera caves. These remains indicate the location was settled continuously across thousands of years.

The September Vendimia festival celebrates local winemaking with traditional music and dancing, where visitors can taste the regional Moscatel grape. This yearly gathering connects the community and shows how wine production shapes daily life here.

The different settlements are spread across the area, so it helps to plan which parts you want to visit beforehand. The coastal areas and inland villages offer different experiences and require thought for a good visit.

At Castillo de la Duquesa on the coast, visitors can see remains of a Roman fish processing facility. This ancient factory specialized in making garum, a fermented fish sauce that was widely traded in the ancient world.
