King Philip V established the Royal Library at the end of 1711, which opened its doors to the public in March 1712.

The library preserves over 28 million publications, including manuscripts, prints, photographs, maps, and sound recordings from the Spanish bibliographic heritage.

Visitors need a reader or researcher card to access the collections, and the library operates from Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-21:00 and Sunday 10:00-14:00.
