Benaocaz

Benaocaz is a mountain village in the Sierra de Grazalema that spreads across a highland landscape and sits at about 793 meters elevation. The settlement includes several residential neighborhoods surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks.

The settlement's origins trace back to the Arabic Ocaz family, with archaeological evidence showing continuous habitation since the 8th century. This long period of settlement has left deep roots in the region.

The Barrio Nazari district displays medieval stone buildings and narrow streets that reflect Moorish architectural traditions from southern Spain. These traditional structures continue to define the neighborhood's character today.

The settlement connects to neighboring towns through the A-374 road, providing direct access to surrounding municipalities. The mountain roads are narrow and winding, so take time to navigate them carefully.

The Ecomuseo Histórico houses artifacts from nearby Neolithic caves in the area. This collection reveals how people adapted to mountain life over thousands of years.
