Pasaia, Coastal municipality in Gipuzkoa, Spain
Pasaia is a coastal town in Gipuzkoa composed of four distinct districts surrounding the Bay of Pasaia: Pasai San Pedro, Pasai Donibane, Antxo, and Trintxerpe. Each area has its own appearance and character, with older harbor quarters meeting newer residential sections.
The right bank district of Donibane separated from Hondarribia in 1770, while San Pedro broke away from Donostia in 1805. These two events shaped the formation of separate administrative districts within the area.
The narrow street of Donibane Kalea holds traditional fishermen's houses and passes through the oldest quarter between historic buildings and the waterfront. The neighborhood still shows how people lived and worked with the sea at their doorstep.
The municipality sits about 5 kilometers east of San Sebastián and connects easily by public transportation. The best time to visit is during warmer months when the bay invites walking and exploring the waterfront.
The Casa Gaviria, also called Casa de Victor Hugo, marks the stay of the French writer who visited in 1843. His time there was later recorded in his travel notes, turning the house into a place of literary interest.
