Torre La Sagrera, Architectural project in Sagrera district, Barcelona, Spain
Torre La Sagrera is a skyscraper in Barcelona's Sagrera district with 34 floors rising to 148 meters. The building combines office spaces, a hotel, and commercial areas within a glass and aluminum facade that opens and closes at different levels in a dynamic design.
The project emerged from a collaboration between architect Frank Gehry and Barcelona's Consorcio de la Zona Franca. It came about after negotiations between ADIF and Barcelona's city council regarding the development of the Sagrera district.
The tower is affectionately known locally as 'the bride' because of the cascading solar panels that drop from the upper levels like a flowing wedding dress. This nickname was given to it when the building model was displayed at the Barcelona Forum in 2004.
The tower stands prominently in the Sagrera neighborhood and is easily visible when walking through the area. It is best reached on foot or by public transportation that serves the district.
The building incorporates advanced energy efficiency techniques with solar panels as a core design feature rather than an afterthought. These environmental systems are woven into the structure itself, making them integral to how the tower functions.
