Porxos d'en Xifré, Neoclassical residential building in Sant Pere Santa Caterina i la Ribera, Spain.
Porxos d'en Xifre is a neoclassical residential building in Sant Pere comprised of six interconnected structures. It features symmetrical proportions, detailed ornamentation, and a series of arched porches along its facade.
The building was completed in 1840 by architects Josep Boixareu and Francesc Vila i Espliego and became the first photographed structure in Spain. This distinction marked a turning point in early architectural documentation.
The facade displays medallions depicting notable figures and mythological motifs that visitors notice when walking past. These ornaments shape how the building appears and invite you to pause and look closely.
The residential complex is fully visible from the public area and can be viewed from the street. Its central location in Sant Pere makes it an easy place to visit without special access requirements.
The rooftop was transformed into a large green space project containing more than 50 plant species and natural habitats for local wildlife. This hidden green roof is one of the largest residential green spaces of its kind in Barcelona and offers a surprising contrast to the stone structures below.
