Pazo de Meirás, Manor house in Sada, Spain.
Pazo de Meirás is a manor house in Meirás in the province of A Coruña, built on a hilltop with stone walls, towers, and a chapel in neo-medieval style. The estate includes several buildings and a garden surrounding the main structure.
Construction began between 1893 and 1900 by writer Emilia Pardo Bazán, who used it as her residence until 1921. After a forced donation through a public subscription in 1938, it became the summer residence of Francisco Franco for decades.
The chapel on the grounds is dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Remedios and remains part of the spaces visitors can walk through today. The interiors display details from different periods, including furniture and decorative elements left by successive occupants.
The Spanish state organizes guided visits to the property, letting visitors walk through the rooms and outdoor areas. The tours offer insights into the architecture and the different chapters of Spanish history tied to the site.
Emilia Pardo Bazán set up a personal library in one of the towers, where she wrote much of her literary output until 1921. The tower rooms served as her retreat for writing and reading.
