The facility, constructed in 1860 as part of the Santner estate with a mill and sawmill, became military barracks for the Sapper Battalion in 1912.
The protection status of Hensel-Kaserne acknowledges its role in preserving the architectural and military legacy of the Carinthia region.
Located at Obere Fellacher Strasse 60-69, the facility currently serves as the base for Pionierbataillon 1, an engineering battalion of Austrian forces.
The barracks contain original Platzlgewölbe vaulted structures, representing traditional Austrian architectural elements from the 19th century.
