Púbol Castle, Medieval castle and museum in La Pera, Spain
Castle of Púbol is a late Gothic fortification on elevated ground in La Pera featuring a walled garden, chapel, and residence. The spaces have been converted into exhibition areas displaying paintings, drawings, haute couture garments, and period furnishings.
The castle was first documented in 1065 when Gaufred Bastons transferred its control to the Counts of Barcelona. This transfer established it as a significant regional fortification with enduring influence throughout the medieval period.
Dalí purchased the castle in 1969 for his wife Gala and redesigned the interior spaces with artistic elements throughout. The rooms reflect his creative vision and served as a private haven for her.
Access leads through several exhibition spaces including the Piano Hall and the castle garden areas. The visit allows you to explore different sections of the structure, so plan enough time to move through all rooms.
The castle contains a bathroom converted from what was originally a kitchen space. This unusual transformation demonstrates Dalí's experimental approach to reimagining the building's rooms.
