Coves del Salnitre

Coves del Salnitre is a cave system within the Montserrat mountains formed in limestone, featuring interconnected chambers throughout its passages. The interior displays natural stone formations that have developed over thousands of years within this underground network.

The site takes its name from saltpeter extraction that occurred during past centuries as a valuable resource for the area. This mining activity left marks on the surrounding landscape and local history.

Reaching the entrance involves climbing exterior steps, and the interior remains at a constant cool temperature regardless of season. Appropriate footwear and layers are advisable for the visit.
