Sa Palomera is a rock formation sitting at the edge of the sea in Blanes, on the coast of Girona province in Catalonia. It rises directly out of the water and can be seen from many points around town.
The rock has been part of the natural coastline of Blanes for centuries and has changed very little over time. It served as a navigation aid for sailors moving along the coast and looking for the entrance to the bay.
Sa Palomera is seen as the landmark of Blanes and marks the official start of the Costa Brava. Local fishermen and sailors have long used it as a reference point when returning to port.
Sa Palomera is easy to reach on foot from the center of Blanes and from the nearby beaches. The best view of the coastline opens up from the paths on the adjacent hill, especially around sunset.
The name Sa Palomera comes from Catalan and roughly means place of doves, a reference to the seabirds that have always rested there. Gulls and other birds still gather on the rock ledges today, giving the place its own quiet rhythm.
