Basque Museum of the History of Medicine and Science

The museum displays over 6,000 medical objects organized across 24 rooms, presenting various specialties from cardiology to ophthalmology and laboratory equipment from different periods.

Established in 1982 within the University of the Basque Country, this museum preserves medical instruments and scientific artifacts from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The institution maintains collections of traditional Basque medical practices, pharmaceutical items, and scientific instruments that reflect regional healthcare development through generations.

Located on the Leioa university campus, the museum offers guided tours, organizes regular conferences, and maintains virtual exhibitions for remote access to its collections.

The museum houses rare medical devices including an electrostatic generator from 1900 and an early twentieth-century steel lung for respiratory treatment.
