Church of Santa María de los Reyes

Church of Santa María de los Reyes is a religious building in Laguardia with three naves divided into sections and a rounded apse that appears polygonal when viewed from outside. The interior layout separates the worship space from the altar area in a clear way.

The building reveals two construction phases: the lower sections date to the 12th century, while the first section with the sanctuary came during the Renaissance period. These layers show how the structure grew and changed across several hundred years.

The entrance displays detailed stone carvings of the Apostles and the Virgin with Child, showing the religious beliefs and artistic skills of the medieval period. These sculptures tell stories that were important to the community then and remain visible today.

To enter the interior, you need to get a key from the tourist office on Calle Mayor. It helps to plan ahead since access is not available at all times.

This building is part of Laguardia's medieval defense system and sits next to the Church of San Juan Bautista along the city wall. These two religious structures stood side by side and protected the town together.
